Sarah Coffman

Praised for her “crystalline tone” (Cleveland Classical), soprano Sarah Coffman has performed a wide variety of repertoire from the middle ages to the present. Sarah has appeared as a vocal soloist with Les Délices, Scaramella, and Alchymy Viols, and The Thirteen, and regularly sings with Apollo’s Fire, L’Academie du Roi Soleil, and Quire Cleveland. Coffman is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Historical Performance Practice at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, where she studies voice with Ellen Hargis and viol with Jaap ter Linden. At Case, she performs in many ensembles as both a singer and an early string player. Recently, Coffman performed the title role in Stradella’s oratorio La Susanna with Case’s Baroque ensemble, and the role of La Musique in Charpentier’s opera Les Arts Florissants at Oberlin’s Baroque Performance Institute. Additionally, Coffman served as the continuo cellist for Amherst Early Music Festival’s 2018 production of Lully’s opera Cadmus et Hermione. In addition to performance, Coffman is an active scholar as well, having presented internationally on late 15th-century and early 16th-century music. Coffman completed her undergraduate work at Lawrence University, where she studied voice with Steven Paul Spears and music history with Sara Gross Ceballos.
