John Solomon Collins
Prince George’s County
Bass-Baritone
B.M. | University of Maryland College Park
John Solomon Collins was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Growing up, he was always surrounded by music, hearing his mother sing with the church praise team and participating in the children’s choir. He became resistant towards singing in middle and early high school, but as time went on, his love for singing and passion for creating art became clearer to him; so he decided to pursue a career in vocal performance. After winning first place in the CAAPA (Coalition of African Americans in the Performing Arts) Scholarship Competition in 2020, he began studying vocal performance under Kevin Short at the University of Maryland. While there, John sang in the chorus during UMD’s production of the opera La bohème and received an honorable mention at the Sue Guetz Ross Memorial Competition presented by the Friday Morning Music Club. He was also accepted into the Honors Performance Series taking place this summer at the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia, and is currently accepting donations to cover the tuition and transportation costs for the program. John is currently a third-year undergraduate student studying vocal performance at the University of Maryland, College Park.
