Jason Dovel
Jason Dovel is associate professor of trumpet at the University of Kentucky (UK). As a soloist and clinician, he has appeared at more than 80 universities and festivals around the world, most recently Conservatoire de Lyon (France), Uni Sant'Anna (Brazil), Queensland Conservatorium (Australia), and the Poulenc Conservatoire (France). In Fall 2021, he served as Visiting Professor of Trumpet at Ionian University in Corfu, Greece. He has recorded four solo CDs, published more than 20 journal articles, and serves on the Board of Directors for both the International Trumpet Guild and the Historic Brass Society. He regularly appears on historical instruments with period orchestras around the United States, including Mountainside Baroque, Bourbon Baroque, Washington Bach Consort, Kentucky Bach Choir, Sonitus Clarissima, and others. He is founding artistic director of the UK Early Music Collective and coordinator for UK's innovative Certificate in Baroque Trumpet. As a modern orchestral trumpeter, he is principal trumpet of the Lexington Chamber Orchestra, Lexington Theatre, and has spent the last 10 summers playing in the Charlottesville Opera Orchestra in Virginia. As a chamber musician, he performs and tours with Quintasonic Brass and the UK Faculty Brass Quintet.
