Mark W. Ohnmacht
For over thirty years, Mark W. Ohnmacht has served as an executive manager, marketer and fundraiser with a number of performing arts ensembles.
Currently, he serves in three capacities: as Executive Director of the Cleveland & Woodley Park Village, as Development Consultant for Washington Master Chorale and as the principal for his consulting business. He is a board member of The Vocal Arts Society, and has served for six years as Treasurer of the Arts Club of Washington. He is an advisory board member for Choralis, The Suspicious Cheese Lords, The Thirteen and Washington Men’s Camerata.
In addition, Mr. Ohnmacht is an active professional musician and for the last twenty-nine years has spent his weekends as the Organist/Choir Director at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church in Arlington, Virginia.
In June 2006 he retired after a ten-year tenure as executive director of the Cathedral Choral Society, the 240-voice resident symphonic chorus of Washington National Cathedral. Prior to his time there, he served as executive director of the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra in Northern Virginia from 1987-1996.
His previous appointments include general manager of the Nassau Symphony Orchestra in Garden City, New York; executive director of the Contemporary Music Forum (in residence at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC); and general manager of the Prince George’s Philharmonic in Riverdale, Maryland.
For ten years, Mr. Ohnmacht was a faculty member for Chorus America’s Chorus Management Institute. He has lectured on arts administration topics at American, Florida State, George Mason, George Washington and Georgetown Universities. His consulting clients have included Cantate Chamber Singers (MD), The Canticle Singers of Baltimore, The Capitol Hill Chorale, The Children’s Chorus of Washington, Choral Arts Society of Washington, Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company, Eclipse Chamber Orchestra, Freddie Mac, The Georgetown Chorale, Masterworks Chorus of the Shenandoah Valley (VA), The Art League (VA), The National Philharmonic (MD), The Reston Chorale (VA), The Santa Clara Chorale (CA), Schola Cantorum on Hudson (NJ), The Susquehanna Chorale (PA), Washington Bach Consort, Washington Concert Opera, Washington Master Chorale, Washington Stage Guild, Women’s Voices Chorus (NC) and The Vocal Arts Society.
Mr. Ohnmacht received his Bachelor’s degree in Music from The Catholic University of America and took graduate level classes at Catholic University, Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ and The Hartt School of Music in Hartford, CT.
An avid theater goer, Mr. Ohnmacht has participated for many years as a volunteer judge for the prestigious Helen Hayes Awards, Washington, D.C.’s regional theater awards.
